Protect yourselves if anyone touches you - IGP tells police

Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has advised officers of the Nigeria police to guard themselves against attacks.

Protect yourselves if anyone touches you - IGP tells police

The police IG gave this recommendation when he visited the Federal Capital Territory Police Command in Abuja, yesterday, October 30.

According to him, officers must protect themselves because they're humans and also have rights.

The IGP also condemned the #EndSARS protest saying it had been an attack targeted at the police to demoralize officers.

In his words, “The unity of this country lies within the support that's given to police officers because if you're demoralized, the tendency is for criminals to take over the public space and therefore the country is counting on us to make sure that the general public space isn't taken over by the criminals. So no amount of provocation, no amount of insult would make us recoil from our responsibilities.

Inasmuch as we are aware that the govt is behind us; so, we would encourage you to keep performing your duties. we would encourage you to be professional, to be civic, but if anybody touches you, if anybody comes to assault you, you'll also protect yourself.

When we talk about human rights, the police are human; so, the rights of police officers would also be protected.
